A journey of a thousand, miles must begat with a single step.
~ Lao Tzu ~
No effort on our part was too small when we decided that we truly wanted the new life offered to us by the Program. Great rivers begin with tiny springs. The healthful flow of our recovery began when we took our First Step. We began to take action and were responsible for our progress.
We learn that we can never stand with raised arms, calling out, “shower me with your gifts.” When we read the Promises of our Program, we are reminded that they will materialize if we work for them. Not a single inch of progress could begin until the First Step of surrender and acceptance was taken.
My recovery journey began with my First Step. Each Step after that has taken me further on my path of spiritual progress. I remind myself that “recovery is discovery.”
