DIVINITY

Man is more than chemicals. Man is more than an animal. Man is a
human being, carrying the image of God, the imprint of Divinity, the
power of the creative God.

As an addict I doubted myself, only adding to my “powerlessness” and
“unmanageability”. I internally said, “I can’t” before I tried. My low
self-esteem was evident long before I took a drink. I was always trying
to get my “outsides” to match what I imagined your “insides” to be
like.

When I accepted my alcoholism I was able to discover God in my life.
Today I am able to create through Him and in Him. Spirituality comes
with the awareness of our God-given divinity.

May I never cease to see You in my life.

BELONGING

I am aware of the truth that I belong. I am an essential part of God’s world. I share Divinity because God made me. Today I seek the spiritual center in me that is forever positive and creative. I am the center of my universe.

Past hurts and wrongs cannot take away the unique-ness in my life. Past abuses and painful put-downs, my years of alternating between the lost child or the scapegoat in my family, need not make me a victim. I am free to choose recovery and acceptance of self. I associate with the winners of this world. I participate in Creation by being a creative person for me. Yesterday’s pain has no power in my life today.

When I kneel before the stream, mountains, and stars, I feel You, God.

Humans are more than chemicals. Human beings carry the image of God, the imprint of Divinity, and the power of the Creative Spirit.

As an addict, I doubted myself, thereby adding to my powerlessness and unmanageability. Internally I said, “I can’t,” even before I tried. My low self-esteem was evident long before I took a drink. I tried to match my “outsides” to what I imagined your “insides” to be like.

When I accepted my alcoholism, I was able to discover God in my life. Today I create through God and in God. Spirituality comes with the awareness of my God- given Divinity.

May I never cease to recognize You in my life.

DIVINITY WITHIN

Perhaps the second best prayer ever written is the Scotsman’s prayer—”Lord, give us a good conceit of ourselves.” You cannot have too much respect for yourself. You cannot have too much confidence in yourself. You cannot claim too much for yourself. But remember that you must realize these things as being the expression of God in you and not independent qualities of your own. You must also accept them as being true for every other human being.

Nothing but failure can come of self-depreciation. Of course, it is true that stupid people can get the malady called “swelled head”— and this always ends in a fall but the realization of one’s divine selfhood never gives swelled head. It gives wisdom, balance, poise, and steady progress. Think, talk, live your divine, glorious selfhood, and it will demonstrate itself in your life.

I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High (Psalm 82:6).

One definition of divinity in the dictionary is “supreme excellence.” It also means “god-like character” and “divine nature.”

Doesn’t that describe someone we love? When we are in love with someone, we see only the best of that person – it’s impossible to see anything else. That person is “divine,” we say, perfect for us, because he or she loves us and is lovable.

Each one of us has a part that is divine. We see it occasionally in others, and they see it in us when they love us. We can draw on that divine part of every person for strength and hope and courage and faith and love. There is wonderful, mysterious beauty in all of us, even when we behave badly.

What divinity do I see in those around me right now?
