The phrase Make the disease work for you makes a great deal of sense. I am a recovering alcoholic. My alcoholism is still with me, so every day I take the necessary steps to stay sober.
My disease is the mad part of me that wants to destroy my life, relationships, and understanding of God. I need to accept my “madness” and turn it around so that it works for me. My suffering is a key to my spiritual growth. My anger helps me understand the imperfections of others. My powerlessness over alcohol gives me an understanding of humility based in reality. The acceptance of my “madness” keeps me sane!
Loving Spirit, give me the sanity to accept my imperfections and grow into the best I can be.
