OBSERVANCE
“The older I grow, the more I listen to people who do not say much.”
~ Germain G. Glidden ~
In recovery, I enjoy watching others. I find the theater of life fascinating. I learn about myself by observing. I may identify with their mannerisms or facial expressions and intuitively sense their feelings. I sometimes recognize their fear, hesitancy, or shame and connect it with my own.
Recovery entails an instinctive spirituality that grows via observation. People are forever communicating—sending energy and messages—not only with words but by their existence, even by their silence. Sometimes, a person’s silence can be deafening! God is alive for me in the lives of others, and part of my worship and prayer is observing the splendor and richness of my fellow and sister humans.
You who created the universe in magnificent silence, touch me with Your stillness.
