Not so very many years ago, to speak of a practical religion would have been considered irreligious if not actually sinful by the majority of Christians. Religion was something one found at church on Sunday, to be put on along with one's Sunday clothes.
Every today there are many people who feel that religion is something entirely separate and apart from their daily lives. Indeed, there are many who believe that instead of being a practical matter here and now, the fruits of religion are really to be found in the next world!
Yet the curious anomaly is that Jesus himself was the most practical teacher that ever lived. There was nothing vague or theoretical about his teaching. To him, religion was everybody's daily life. As he went about speaking to the multitudes he not only sought to make his teaching practical to them, but he demonstrated in his own life how practical religion could be. His many healings of the sick and his overcoming of all kinds of difficulties, bear eloquent testimony of the views of jesus on the practicality of religion.
Now, there are two ways in which we can make our religion practical.
We must first make it practical in our own lives, by using the principles Jesus taught, to demonstrate over problems as they come along, and to elevate our consciousness so that our lives may be an example to others. This is really a lifetime job in itself, but it will bring increasing harmony, happiness and prosperity.
The second step is to make your religion practical for others by making it possible for them to get a better knowledge of the Truth. This can be done by the distribution of metaphysical booklets and books or by suggesting where one might find the same instruction that has helped you.
You should also make your religion practical for others by praying for them when they request it, and by giving material help where this seems genuinely indicated.
Of course, you will find that in doing these things you have, as the Bible says, let your own light so shine that you have become an example and an inspiration to those whom you meet.
