Emmet Fox - Unprofitable Talk #essentialsofrec #Recovery #Difficulties

Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?  JOB 15:2,3

THERE are occasions when difficulties seem to hang on with little or no improvement. At such times one is perhaps tempted to forsake his knowledge of Truth, and say, “What is the use? I don’t seem to get any results from prayer.” If we continue in that state of mind, we soon go through a period of depression and despair, and we create a negative cycle where difficulty piles on difficulty.

Of course, it is easy to see why this should happen because negative thinking only begets more negative thinking, and we simply keep on producing more and more negative conditions.

Now, prayer is always good, but it is at the very times that we think prayer is not working that we need it most.

Instead of going round and round like a trapped rat in a cage, you should pause and reflect once more upon the love and goodness of God, because it is only by a rise in consciousness that you can begin to rise above your problems.

Having taken this initial step, seek to give your prayers a freshness by reading something in the Bible or some good spiritual book. Get away from hackneyed affirmations that you have come to recite parrot fashion. Talk to God like a little child in simplicity and faith.

Then forget about your difficulties for the time being, leaving the results to God. Do not look forward to another treatment because this is only affirming that the present one will not work; but pray again later on if you find it necessary.

If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up (Job 22:23).
