“When one is painting, one does not think.”
–Raphael SanzioAn artist is predominantly a person who feels rather than thinks; he is molding his most inner experiences into the finished product.I am doing the same in my sobriety. Today I am molding something good and wholesome from a life that was negative and destructive. I am rediscovering God, not just in thoughts and ideas, but in the daily happenings of my life. God is not only an idea but He is alive in my relationships, behavior and daily acts of kindness.God is a process in which I am involved. He is at the center of my life, regardless of the ordinariness of the event. Art is part of my life because I am a creative human being.Teach me to look beyond the painting into myself.
Isn’t it great life is open-ended!
—Brigitte Frase
Elizabeth Lawton, known as “Grandma Layton,” is an American artist who never drew a picture until she was sixty-eight years old. She spent all the years before that time trying to cope with depression. She had gone through therapy, medications, and shock treatment and continued to be severely depressed. But then she signed up for an art class and the act of drawing cured her depression. She continues to make fabulous pictures.
What does she think about the critical acclaim her artwork has received? She says she wants others to know about her art so it may give hope to those who have also “suffered from feelings.”
Many of us have suffered from feelings. We must remember that we can each turn to our creativity – at any age – as a source for our well-being. All we need to do is have faith in the potential goodness within ourselves and those we love.
What creative activity can I look to for comfort today?

Diet. Herbs. Clothing. Recitation.

Storm breaks into pieces,
Clouds change the horizon.
Revolving of the heavens
Generates all movement.
Without movement, there could be nothing created in this universe. The revolving of the heavens can generate wind, rain, thunder, lightning. The revolving of the earth enables us to have day and night, the very cycle of the weather, the seasons, and the growth of plants. Movement is responsible for creativity.
Followers of Tao value initiative, but mere aggression is not enough. One needs creativity. This can mean the ability to solve problems, to think of unusual strategies, or to compose poetry, music, and painting. In all these cases, one moves in concert with Tao not by blind aping, but by giving intelligent counterpoint and harmony. Creativity does not mean the arbitrary making of something out of our cultural minds. Rather, it is spontaneous movement in tandem with Tao, a movement that will generate life and not misery for others.
One has reached the ultimate levels of creativity when one has mastered skill so thoroughly that it can be forgotten. Look at heaven and earth

CREATIVITY
“Creative intelligence in its various forms and activities is what makes man.”
—James Harvey Robinson
Spirituality is being a positive and creative human being in all areas of my life; this I know to be true today. I am not only creative, I am a creative human being. God created me to create. I am a part of His love for the world; through me, great and wonderful events can happen. Although I am not divine, I know that I share divinity. I am special.
But with this knowledge comes tremendous responsibility because things are only going to happen if I make them happen in my life. To know that I am creative does not make me creative. I have to do something, make something, create something in my life.
Today I work at my life like a carpenter works at his wood. I chip away those things I do not want; I smooth down the rough areas of my life, and I polish up those things I want people to see. I accept responsibility for my creativity, and I thank God, on a daily basis, for it.
Teach me, O Creator of the universe, to use my life as a tool for goodness, joy and truth.

Creativity and self-expression are the keys which open the door to my soul.
~ Betty MacDonald ~
Why do we find it so hard to believe that we are creative and talented? Generally we look upon “artists” as being far different from us. When we were young, we were encouraged to be ordinary, “like everyone else.” Those who dared to see the world differently were weird. Thus our creative juices lay untapped.
But every spirit, by its very nature, is creative and talent-filled. Fortunately, the well of our creative spirits hasn’t run dry. We can prime the pump and bring them bubbling to the surface. The first step is to acknowledge our creative potential.
The real gift of this journey is that hope has been inspired in us. We hear the stories of how others have changed and tapped into their creativity. We understand it can happen to us too.
Being willing to have my talents revealed is necessary for it to happen. I will work on willingness today.

Worship is not a matter of making an obeisance to a god. It is a matter of achieving godlike qualities in yourself. This is done through the cultivation of nine areas :
Diet should be moderate, healthy, and of living foods. If you want to be sustained, eat things that themselves sustained life.
Learn to use herbs, for they heal and maintain health
Be moderate in your clothing; wear natural fibers. What you wear is an expression of your state of mind
Recitation includes prayer, song, chanting, and finally, the practice of silence. What you say becomes reality
Stretch, move, and exercise every day. The universe moves; so too should the energy within your body
Meditate every day — once in the morning and once in the evening, if possible. Only then will you attain tranquility and triumph over your dilemmas
Be creative. Thus we contribute, and thus we elevate our souls
Acquire a good education. Treasure what you learn, and preserve it so that it may be passed on to others. Never be selfish with what you know
Above all, be compassionate. This is a stand against all evil, and it opens your spirit
People ask, “How can I worship properly?” Cultivate these nine fields
